Getting started with DocketRadar

Everything you need to set up, configure, and get the most out of DocketRadar.

Getting Started

  1. Visit docketradar.com and click "Sign Up" to create your free account.
  2. Choose your plan — the free tier includes up to 5 cases with full features.
  3. Add your cases and connect your integrations. You're ready to go.

The free plan gives you full access to all features for up to 5 cases. A guided welcome screen walks you through DocketRadar's features, supported courts, and how to get started.

Quick Start

  1. After signing up, the dashboard shows your monitored cases and connected integrations.
  2. Add a case by entering a case number and selecting the county (see Supported Courts below).
  3. From your dashboard, click Add Case.
  4. Select the state and county, then enter the case number. DocketRadar looks up the case from the court portal.
  5. Click Watch to add the case to your watch list.
  6. DocketRadar will now check this case automatically every 15 minutes and notify you when something changes.

That's it. No browser extensions, no software to install. Your dashboard works from any browser on any device.

Adding Cases to Monitor

To add a case to your watch list:

  1. From your dashboard, click Add Case.
  2. Select the state and county from the dropdown, then enter the case number.
  3. DocketRadar looks up the case and shows the details — case style, judge, parties, and docket entries. Click Watch to start monitoring.

Once watched, DocketRadar monitors the case automatically and notifies you of changes.

The free plan lets you monitor up to 5 cases across all supported courts with full features. Professional subscribers can monitor unlimited cases.

Your DocketRadar dashboard is your home base for managing monitored cases:

Case List: Your dashboard shows all watched cases with their current status, judge, next hearing, and recent changes. Cases with new activity are flagged so you can review them first.

Case Detail: Click any case to see the full details: case number, style, status, judge, division, filing date, next hearing, parties, and recent docket entries. Changes since your last visit are highlighted.

Integrations: From your dashboard, connect Clio or Google Calendar. Once connected, data syncs automatically. Outlook Calendar is coming soon.

Settings: Configure notification preferences, manage integrations, switch between light and dark themes, and manage your account and billing.

Notifications Setup

DocketRadar sends notifications when changes are detected on your watched cases. Notifications are delivered via email and in-app alerts.

  1. Change alerts: Enabled by default. DocketRadar emails you when a hearing is scheduled, rescheduled, or cancelled on any watched case.
  2. Hearing reminders: Receive a reminder email 24 hours before a hearing and again 2 hours before — so nothing falls through the cracks.
  3. In-app alerts: Changes appear on your dashboard with a visual indicator. Cases with new activity are flagged automatically.
  4. Always monitoring: DocketRadar checks your cases automatically on our servers — no need to keep your browser open.

Notification emails include the case number, county, hearing date, and a description of the change. Each email has a one-click unsubscribe link. To adjust which notification types you receive, go to Settings → Notifications in your dashboard.

Clio Integration

DocketRadar syncs case data directly with Clio practice management, included on all plans. For a comprehensive guide, see our dedicated Clio Integration page.

Quick setup: Open DocketRadar Settings, click "Connect Clio," authorize in the OAuth window, and you're syncing. Hearings, docket entries, and party information flow into Clio automatically.

Calendar Sync

DocketRadar can sync hearing dates directly to Google Calendar, included on all plans. When a hearing is detected or updated, calendar events are created, updated, or removed automatically. Outlook Calendar sync is coming soon.

Google Calendar

  1. Open DocketRadar Settings and click Connect Google Calendar.
  2. Authorize DocketRadar in the Google OAuth window. Only calendar event access is requested — DocketRadar cannot read your email or other Google data.
  3. Select which calendar to use for hearing events.
  4. Optionally configure reminder times (e.g., 30 minutes before, 1 day before).

Outlook Calendar

Outlook Calendar sync is coming soon. Microsoft Graph API integration is in progress. Check the changelog for updates when it launches.

Calendar events include the hearing type, case number, judge, location, and case style. When a hearing is rescheduled or cancelled, the calendar event updates automatically.

Data Export

Export case data in JSON format for use in other tools, backups, or record keeping.

Export a single case:

  1. Go to your DocketRadar dashboard and open the Cases page.
  2. Click the three-dot menu on any case card.
  3. Select Export JSON.
  4. The JSON file downloads to your default downloads folder.

Export all data:

  1. Open DocketRadar Settings (gear icon in the top navigation).
  2. Under Data Management, click Export.
  3. All watched cases and settings are downloaded as a single JSON file.

Exported data includes case numbers, party names, hearing dates, docket entries with timestamps, and change history. You can import a previously exported file from the same Data Management section.

Troubleshooting

Case data isn't showing on my dashboard

  • Verify you're signed in to your DocketRadar account.
  • Check that the case has been added to your watch list with the correct case number and county.
  • Try refreshing your dashboard. The first check for a new case usually completes within 15 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, contact support with your case number and county details.

Notifications are not arriving

  • Check that DocketRadar's email notification setting is enabled in your Settings page.
  • Verify your email address is correct in your account settings.
  • Check your spam/junk folder — DocketRadar emails may be filtered by your email provider.
  • DocketRadar checks cases server-side automatically — no need to keep your browser open.

Case data seems stale or outdated

  • DocketRadar checks cases on a regular schedule. If a very recent change isn't showing, wait for the next check cycle.
  • You can manually trigger a refresh from the case detail page on your dashboard.
  • If a county clerk portal is experiencing downtime, DocketRadar cannot retrieve updates until the portal is back online.

Clio sync isn't working

  • Verify your Clio connection is active in Settings. If the token has expired, click "Reconnect Clio" to re-authorize.
  • Check that your Clio account has the required permissions (read/write access to matters).
  • See the Clio Integration guide for detailed troubleshooting steps.
